MR LYONS’S ILLNESS
TRYING EXPERIENCE RECORDED United Press Association—By Electric Teleeraph —Copyright SYDNEY, November 14. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons), who became suddenly ill yesterday, arrived at St. Vincent’s Hospital shortly before midnight, after a trying motorcar journey from Canberra. He was examined by Sir John Kelvey, who subsequently announced that there would be no immediate operation. An X-ray would be made in the morning. It. is understood that Mr Lyons is suffering from abdominal trouble. Mr Lyons, who was accompanied by Mrs Lyons, was delayed for two hours on the journey, when the car broke down about 50 miles from Sydney. Terrific thunderstorms were experienced on the trip, and finally Mr Lyons was stranded in u small township, which was without telephonic communication. The driver had to walk two miles through heavy rain to the nearest telephone for help. A taxi then conveyed Mr Lyons to Sydney. An X-ray has been taken, but the results are not yet known. The condition of the Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) to-day was improved. His medical adviser, Sir John McKelvey, expressed the opinion that there was no necessity for an operation and Mr Lyons should be able to resume his duties within a few days.
