Mr and Mrs P. Gill, Christchurch, are guests at the Grosvenor. Mrs Oliver Bain, Pleasant Point, is pending a few days in Timaru. Miss Janet Murchison, Fairview, will eave to-day to spend a few days with Mrs R. J. Loughnan, Christchurch. Mrs Martin, Martinborough, is staying with Mrs R .H. Rhodes, “Carne,” Sealy Street. Miss Wright, Wai-iti Road, has returned from a visit to Mrs J. C. j Templer, Waimate. Mrs H. E. D. Willcox. Bidwill Street, returned yesterday from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Eileen O’Meeghan, Moana Flats, is the guest of Miss Agnes Barrett, Christchurch. Mrs M. C. Curie, Wanganui, who was a visitor to Christchurch for the races is now the guest of Mrs Collins, Mt. Gay. Miss Denderah Rhodes, has arrived from Dunedin to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs Timaru Rhodes, “Hadlow.” Mrs Jeffrey Manning, India, who is the guest of Miss Betty Rutherford, Christchurch, for the races will arrive shortly to stay with Mrs Harold Elworthy, “Craigmore.” Dr and Mrs F. Bowe who have been staying with Mr and Mrs Douglas Barker, Kaikoura. will return to Timaru to-day. Mr and Mrs Barker are the guests of Mrs Norton Francis. Christchurch. It is stated in the “National Council News” that the Peace Committee in London has recently been greatly pleased by the recognition of the many years for work towards peace on the part of its convener, who is now entitled Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, having had the Order of the British Empire title bestowed upon her by his Majesty recently. Dr Ann Simpson, of Aberdeen, Scotland, who is particularly interested in child welfare, arrived on a holiday visit to New Zealand by the Marama this week. During her stay in New Zealand she hopes to visit most of the places of interest as well as studying the Plunket system as practised at the Karitane homes. Dr Simpson is a sister of Miss Beatrice Simpson, of the staff of the Rowett Institute of Scientific Research. Aberdeen, who was in New Zealand on exchange two years ago.
