ROYAL MAIL LINE
COMPETITION FOR PURCHASE OF ASSETS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received November 1, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 1. The city editor of “The Daily Express” says that a syndicate, with an influential financial backing and acting with the approval of the Treasury, is proposing to bid for the Royal Mail Line’s assets. It is understood that foreign shipping is already considering the purchase of some of the companies of the group. The syndicate believes that indiscriminate liquidation of the Royal Mail group would be a national tragedy. The syndicate proposes to arrange for the repayment of the Royal Mail first debentures, and offer second debenture holders part of the debentures in shares in the new company.
