ST. JOSEPH’S SOCIAL CLUB
SUCCESSFUL CONCERT Music lovers of the Temuka district attended in large numbers at a concert conducted in the Dominion Theatre by the St. Joseph’s Social Club in the interests of the Convent Chapel building fund. Much interest attached to the first appearance of Mr Dan Foley, the New Zealand tenor. With his first numbers. “The Rose of Tralee” and “My Old Irish Mother,” he captured the hearts of his audience and recalls brought him back to the platform again and again. Minehan, who gave “The Roadmender’s Dream” and “The President’s Speech at the Bachelors’ Club.” A clever piece of work was a sketch of Uriah Heap from David Copperfield. “The Old Plaid Shawl,” another elocutionary item, was given by Miss Mary Kelly, whose encores were “Mrs ’Arris” and “’Specially Jim.” Among the most popular items of the programme. especially with the younger members of the audience, were the feats of “black magic” performed by Messrs Griffiths and Moffit. An instrumental item was given by the Smith Trio, of Timaru. and dances by Temuka performers. Misses Coffey, Leonard (2), and Coffey. Mrs A. C. Fahey, of Timaru, was the accompanist.
