The Mualalumpur correspondent of “The Daily Mail” says that the British Government has altered the succession to the throne of Selangor, one of the Federated Malay States, ordering the Sultan’s heir apparent, the Rajah Mudah, to resign the succession in favour of his half-brother, Tungku Leksamana.
It is understood that Britain disapproves Rajah’s mode of living. He is reported to be encumbered with debts, and disregards the Moslem rule against alcohol.
The Sultan, who is aged 72, fears that his own abdication may be requested, because he opposes Mudah’s deposition, as Tungku’s mother was not of Royal blood. Trouble is feared owing to a division of opinion among Malay chiefs, some resenting Britain’s interference.
