United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrlgnt SOFIA, October 30. King Boris was travelling by the express from Sofia to Varna when the locomotive caught fire, 140 miles from Varna. The King dressed the engine driver’s burns and then drove the locomotive to the nearest river, where he helped the crew to extinguish the fire. The King remounted the footplate and drove the train to Varna. King Boris has always been keenly interested in railways and he is an excellent engine driver. RUMOURS OF INTENDED OUTRAGE REPORTED USE OF TIME BOMB United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copvrlght (Received October 31, 8.55 p.m.) LONDON, October 30. The Varna correspondent of “The Daily Mail” says that the fire on the locomotive was due to an attempt to murder King Boris by a time bomb, which was placed in the tender among the coal. King Boris heard an explosion and saw the flames. The engine was gaining such speed that it was surprising that it was not derailed. King Boris clambered along the footboard and reached the blazing locomotive. He found the driver barely conscious. He stopped the train and tended the driver. The police arrested many railwaymen between Sofia and Varna. Another Report. Another message denies that the fire was due to a bomb attempt on the life of King Boris, w r ho noticed that the train had stopped at an unscheduled station. He went to investigate and saw the driver trying to extinguish his burning clothes. He sprang on to the locomotive and saved the man. He then drove the train The fire was due to an overheated brake.
