TEMUKA STOCK SALE LARGE FAT CATTLE ENTRY The fortnightly sale was held on Tuesday at Temuka yards. Large entries of cattle and sheep were forward and all pig pens were used, the sale not being finished until well on into the afternoon. Fat Cattle.—As at the previous sale 140 head of fat cattle were forward and the sale was a good one, butchers evidently holding' short supplies. Prices were: Best fat steers £B/2/6 to £9/7/6, best fat heifers £5/17/6 to £7, medium fat heifers £4/12/6 to £5, best fat cows £6/5/- to £B/7/6, medium fat cows £4/17/6 to £5/7/6, vealers 15/- to 37/6, runners £3/7/6 to £4/2/6. Store Cattle.—There was a keen enquiry for all classes of bulls, prices rising considerably. The other cattle sold at late rates. Sales made were: Jersey bulls £3 to 6J guineas, Shorthorn bulls to £4/5/-, 2 year steers (ordinary) £3/3/-, yearling heifers 23/6 to 35/-, 3-year heifers (medium) £2/12/6, cows and calves to £3, empty cows 13/- to £2/5/-. 2-year black and white heifers £l/17/6.

Dairy Cattle.—A small yarding was offered, the quality not being up to the usual standard. Cows in profit made up to £4, and heifers in profit sold as high as £3/10/-. Fat Sheep.—The fat sheep sale was a dragging one, the butchers appearing to hold supplies. Good sheep were easier by 2/6 a head. Values were: Best fat ewes (in wool) 21/- to 22/6, medium fat ewes 17/- to 20/-, shorn ewes 16/6 to 18/3, best fat wethers (in wool) 25/- to 27/7, medium fat wethers (in wool) 23/- to 24/-, spring lambs 20/-. Pigs.—Fully 200 pigs of all grades were yarded. The market opened at about 2/6 a head weaker as compared with the previous sale, but improved towards the end. Sales made were: Weaners 9/- to 16/-, slips 17/- to 21/store pigs 20/- to 30/6, light porkers to 36/-, baconers £2/16/- to £3/4/-.
