THE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MANY RECORDS BROKEN At the High School sports on Friday afternoon, the championships and cups went to the following:— Senior Championship, boys—F. Morrison, 19 points. Junior Championship, boys— B. O’Malley, 24 points. Senior Championship, girls—O. Kilworth, 16 points. Junior Championship, girls—M. Dash and J. Fraser, equal, 15 points. G. J. Shackleton Cup for field events —W. Murphy. Morrison Cup for most points in running events—F. Morrison. The following records were broken:— Junior Mile. —B. O’Malley reduced W. Rendall’s record of 5.40 2-5 (1932) to 5.35. 100 Yards—B. O’Malley reduced previous record of 11 3-5 to 11 1-5. Long Jump.—B. O’Malley, by jumping 16ft sin, improved on W. Murphy’s record (1933), of 16ft 4in, by lin. Long Jump, junior girls—M. Dash improved on her own record (1933), of lift 4in, by jumping lift 6in. 75 Yards, junior girls—M. Dash reduced her record of 10 2-ssec (1933), by 2-ssec, to lOsec. 220 Yards, junior girls—J. Fraser reduced O. Kilworth’s record (1933) of 32 3-ssec to 32sec. The School was fortunate in having the services of the following as officials: Sprints, Mr T. Parry, Mr S. I. Fitch, Mr S. Grut, Mr A. Bringans; distances, Messrs T. Parry, M. Whatman and G. Holmes; jumps, Messrs G. J. Shackleton, J. Hay and T. A. Wilson; timekeepers, Messrs C. Hood and L. McLauchlan. ACKNOWLEDGMENT Matron Shepherd, Waipiata Sanatorium, desires to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of a consignment of cut blooms for the patients forwarded by the Waimate Methodist Ladies’ Guild per Mesdames R. P. Harris, Coronation Street, and F. Nash, Parsonage Road. HOOK TENNIS CLUB At the weekly euchre and dance evening of the Hook Tennis Club in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, there was a fair attendance. The prizes, given by Mr and Mrs Foote, were won by Mrs Watkins and Mr Cliff Medlicott, the consolation awards going to Miss Margaret McKenzie and Mr Geo. Alexander. A canteen of candy given by Miss D. Meyer was won by Mr J. Hughes. Dance music was contributed by Mrs C. Rose and Mr J. Clarke. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES The Studholme Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Hall. Mrs Henshaw (vice-president) spoke feelingly of the president’s bereavement, and a motion of sympathy with the Hayman family was passed, members standing in silence. After a short business discussion the meeting was adjourned out of respect for the late Mr Hayman. The Waihaorunga Women’s Institute held a meeting at the home of Mrs Whatman, the president (Mrs Colvill) being in the chair. A most instructive darning demonstration was given by Mrs Hurst and Mrs Elderton. They were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A specimen bloom competition was won by Mrs Hurst, with Mrs Colvill second. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Armstrong, Bell and McKenzie. CRICKET Teams for to-morrow are:— Waimate A v.
