NATIONAL INSURANCE CO. ANNUAL REPORT By Telegraph Press Association DUNEDIN, October 29. The annual report of the National Insurance Company of New Zealand, Ltd., shows a net income for the year ended September 30. 1934, of £237,958/19/1. After making full provision for losses outstanding, there is an underwriting surplus of £28,096/16/8. Interest and rents, less income tax, amount to £27,622/9/2, and the balance brought forward from last year is £35,588/8/2, amounting in all to £91,308/14/-. The interim dividend paid in May, 1934, absorbed £16,666/13/4 leaving an available balance of £74,642/0/8. The directors have added £1,167/13/6 to the taxation and contingency account, £IO,OOO to the reserve fund and written £5732 off the Company's premises, and recommend the payment, of a further dividend of 5d a share (making the total distribution for the year 9d a share, equalling £37,500), and to carry forward £36,909/0/6. The superintendent of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has advised the Stock Exchange Association that at the annual meeting in London on November 22, the directors will recommend a final dividend of 2i per cent, which, with the previous interim dividend, will make 5 per cent, for the year. MINING NEWS By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, October 29. The Gillespie’s beach dredge reports a return for the week of 570 z. for 137 hours working. The Okarito washup for the week ended Saturday totalled 360 z. 12dwt. for 128 hours dredging. The Waitahu Goldmining Company states that the result of 96 days elevating was 230 z. 19dwt.
