The New Zealand rowers afloat yesterday practising for Saturday’s regatta, impressed onlookers as a particularly strong crew. The scullers Smith and Abbott also favourably impressed. Smith is likely to extend Turner, the Australian champion. Heavy rain has swollen the Yarra course, but the strong current has not affected the New Zealanders, who said that they were accustomed to such conditions.
