MELBOURNE, October 26.
In the sixth stage of the Centenary Thousand, Mithouard (France) after several punctures and breaking a wheel, announced his retirement. Although the riding conditions were shocking, the original route was adhered to, over mountains with freshly fallen snow adding to the difficulties.
Mithouard had held the lead in the championship aggregate. Hubert Opperman has also suffered many mishaps, and his chances in the championship are diminishing. Milliken is now ineligible owing to his having received assistance from a police motor cyclist.
H. G. Watson (New Zealand) is still riding well.
