THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist General situation—The anti-cyclone is now moving eastwards off New Zealand, and a rather vigorous depression is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Winds—Moderate to strong northerly, reaching gale force at places south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, backing to southerlies in the southern portion of the South Island within the next 24 hours, and later southwesterlies or southerlies extending over most of the Dominion. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Poveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate.
Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong northerly to westerly winds, backing later to south-westerly; seas rough.
Weather —Unsettled in western districts from Taranaki southwards, with rain; elsewhere fair at first, but later extending to parts of the eastern districts also; temperatures mild, but a cool change is likely within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Weather —Pine and warm at first; showery conditions are likely to follow late to-day (Saturday) or to-morrow.
Conditions In Timaru.
Beautiful weather conditions prevailed in Timaru yesterday. In the early morning the sky was overcast with fog apparent, but when the sun made its appearance it continued to shine throughout the day.
