METHODIST CHURCH
TIMARU CIRCUIT At the quarterly meeting of the Timaru Methodist Circuit, the Rev. J. D. McArthur presided. A motion of condolence with a number of friends who had suffered bereavement was carried. The balance-sheet was presented, and showed a substantial credit.
The chairman extended a welcome to Mrs Howe, a prominent worker of Taranaki Street Methodist Church, Wellington.
The reports of the youth department show a steady increase in numbers. The Church membership returns were presented and considered to be satisfactory. A special collection was
authorised on Christmas Day for the South Island Methodist Orphanage. The meeting approved of the recommendation of the local preachers’ meeting, that as Mr A. Watson was again actively assisting, his name be added to the preachers’ list. In addition, Messrs S. Blanchard, C. Scarf and T. Simmons were received on probation. In view of the generous assistance given from time to time, it was agreed to add the names of Messrs R. Stewart and G. McKessar as auxiliaries.
The following representatives were elected to the Synod to be held in Waimate next months:—Messrs H. H. Brown, C. W. Keinan. W. J. Irwin, E. C. J. Foot. Substitute delegates were appointed to act if called upon. Invitations to the Revs. J. D. McArthur and H. L. Fiebig to remain in the circuit were accepted. The Rev. Wm. C. Jenkin was, subject to the consent of the conference, also invited to remain for a second year. Messrs J. C. Butcher and J. Gilchrist were reappointed circuit auditors for 1934-1935. The ladies of Banks Street Church provided supper.
