The team to represent the Clandeboye Tennis Club’s A grade team in Che. first match of the competition against Orari, at Orari, to-day, will be: Misses A. Liddle, N. Hickey and M. Liddle, Mrs Washington and L. Goodson. A. Hole, R. Armstrong and B. Morrison. WAITOHI INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Waitohi Womeh’s Institute took the form of a Juniors’ afternoon, the younger members taking over the supervision. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Miss R. Mathieson, was passed. One new member was elected. Mrs Nolan and Mrs McKinnon were appointed to represent the Institute at the half-yearly Federation meeting at Temuka.

A pianoforte duet was given by Misses K. and J. Paegan, a song with ukelele accompaniment by Miss R. Sewell and a song by Mrs Kennedy. Prizes given by a member were awarded in the following competitions: Best cushion, Mrs Nolan 1, Mrs Johnson 2. Tray cloth, Miss M. Moore 1 and 2, Mrs Nolan 3. Knitted article: Mrs Johnson 1, Miss L. Crombie 2, Miss M. Crombie 3. Other competitions were won by Mrs G. A. Davey and Mrs Johnson. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Dick and Stratford and Misses E. Dick and K, Moore, WAITEA REBEKAH LODGE At the fortnightly meeting of the Waitea Rebekah Lodge, Sister A. Hutcheson, N.G., presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with Sisters E. end M. Scott in a recent bereavement. Two candidates were successfully balloted for. The initiation rehearsal was then carried out by the new officers after which supper was served. GENERAL NEWS The Clandeboye Tennis Club held the first of a series of short-night dances in the Public Hall, Clandeboye, on Thursday evening. It was well patronised, music being supplied by a local orchestra, while Misses M. Clayton and E. Boocock contributed extras. Successful Temuka candidates in the recent Canterbury College Terms Examination were Miss B. Austin, who passed in Political Science, and C. D. Hopkinson, who secured passes in History 2 and Philosophy 2. Lady supporters of the Lily of Temuka Druids Lodge held a social in the Druids Lodge on Thursday evening. The winners of card games were Misses S. Hobbs and B. Heap and Mr M. McGillen, while Miss S. O’Connor won another competition. During the dance Mrs G. Moulton and Mr D. O’Connor won a Monte Carlo waltz. A MUSICAL ROMANCE Marion Davies plays one of the most entertaining roles of her film career in the novel musical production “Cinderella’s Fella,” the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer championship vehicle which is to be seen at Temuka to-day. The picture, an original story from the witty pen of Donald Ogden Stewart, actor, humorist and playwright, is a romance of the real Hollywood, yet one spiced with catchy song hits and bizarre dance ensembles wj|ich make it one of the most entertaining films of the year. The studio scenes serve to introduce spectacular musical ensembles in which Miss Davies is to be seen with the Albertina Rasch ballet. Just how the big musical numbers are filmed is a feature of these unique scenes. Bing Crosby, who is cast as Miss Davies’ leading man, sings several of the song numbers written for the production by Brown and Freed. With the celebrated New Zealand tenor, Mr Dan Foley, as its chief attraction, a concert of outstanding merit will be given in the Dominion Theatre on Wednesday. Songs, instrumental and elocutionary items as well as conjuring, will comprise the programme and popular prices have been decided upon. The season’s trophies will be presented by the Mayor at the Temuka Miniature Rifle Club’s annual wind-up social in the Parish Hall on Thursday, the euchre commencing at 7.45. The Waitohi Women’s Institute will hold a country dance social on Wednesday, at 7.30 p.m. A small' charge will be made. The St. Joseph’s Tennis Club will hold a grand dance in the club rooms on Wednesday, November 7, at which a feature will be an amateur waltzing competition and novelty dances.
