KIDNAPPERS PRISON

SENT TO LONE ISLAND Alcatraz Island, the United States’ penal island for dangerous criminals, has received two more of the most desperate criminals in America. Harvey Bailey and George “Machine-Gun"’ Kelly, both notorious kidnappers, went there from Leavenworth Penitentiary. More than 100 “public enemies” arrived in a special train similar to that which recently brought A 1 Capone. The prisoners were handcuffed together, heavily guarded, and shackled to the seats. This is a further step in the new policy of preventing imprisoned gangsters from buying or shooting their way out of the smaller gaols. Alcatraz is completely isolated. Several prisoners have tried to escape by swimming to the mainland, but they were all drowned or eaten by sharks.
