MOTOR BOATS IN CANAL

DAMAGE CAUSED BY “WASH.” United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 26, 9.0 p.m.) VENICE, October 26. The architectural committee recommends that 800 motor boats, which are in use on the Grand Canal daily, should be excluded. They say that the “wash” made by the boats is destroying the foundations of homes and private palaces. Twenty years of motor traffic has done more harm than centuries of tides. Five public buildings lining the canal are either under repair or have been reconditioned at great cost. It is estimated that the reconditioning of private palaces will cost about double their market value.
