RURAL FINANCE

PROPOSALS ATTACKED By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, October 25. “That this Chamber views many of the proposals of the Monetary Commission and Dairy Commission concerning rural mortgage corporations as impracticable and unwise. These are inequitable as between different classes of the community, and they would be incapable of general acceptance by the community if they were left to voluntary action. If, however, they are forced on the community by the power of the State, they may do more ultimate harm than the good they are designed to accomplish.” The foregoing motion was carried tonight by the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. The motion was submitted by Mr A. C. Bretherton, who attacked the proposals strongly. The .discussion was taken in committee.
