FISCAL REPRISALS
AUSTRALIA FEARS FIJI THREAT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA, October 24. The Federal Government is much concerned at the action of the Fiji Government in threatening to impose penal duties on Australian goods, and the Customs Department is preparing a report for the ' Ministry’s guidance with regard to reciprocal trade with Fiji. Australian purchases from Fiji are only £30,000 a year, while the Fijian market is. worth £283,000 to Australia. Bananas brought from Fiji to Australia yield only about 1/- per case profit, after taxes, primage and landing costs are levied on them.
