The Federal Government is much concerned at the action of the Fiji Government in threatening to impose penal duties on Australian goods, and the Customs Department is preparing a report for the ' Ministry’s guidance with regard to reciprocal trade with Fiji. Australian purchases from Fiji are only £30,000 a year, while the Fijian market is. worth £283,000 to Australia. Bananas brought from Fiji to Australia yield only about 1/- per case profit, after taxes, primage and landing costs are levied on them.
