ST. ANDREWS

DWELLING GUTTED A five-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr E. C. Blank, on the Bluecliffs Road. St. Andrews, was totally destroyed by fire at about 2 p.m. yesterday. The fire started at the back o' the house, and aided by a fresh north-east breeze it soon had a good hold. A number of neighbours arrived on the scene and a bucket brigade was formed, and managed to save the outbuildings. An attempt was made by Mr D. R. Spence to use a chemical fire extinguisher, but the fire had then too good a hold to enable it to be used. Apart from the telephone and a handful of effects, nothing was saved from the house.
