CORRIEDALE SHEEP

BIGGEST CLASS IN SHOW The largest section in the show, so far as the sheep were concerned, was the Corriedale, of which 79 were penned as against 74 last year. On the first day the judge, Mr H. Sidey, Hawarden, was kept occupied until almost 5 o’clock, and he did not have an opportunity of deciding the class for ram for type and production until yesterday. The class was for ram, any age, to be shown in the wool, with two ram hoggets and two ewe hoggets sired by him. The ram was judged on the following scale: 30 points for qualities and type, and 70 points for qualities and type of his progeny. There were three competitors, who provided four exhibits. First prize went to Mr G. Johnston, Ashburton, and Mr Jas. Reid was placed second. The judge remarked that the class had been a very good one, and should go a long way towards helping uniformity in the breed. It was not every show at which such a class was included, but if all the A. and P. Associations made provision for such a class, much good would undoubtedly result. Speaking of the Corriedales generally, he said that the standard had been very good, especially in the wool. He had been a little disappointed, however, with the carcases in the ram classes.
