CENTENARY PROGRAMME In view of the fact that a New Zealand team will be taking part in the international croquet tournament to be held in Melbourne, a short resume of the programme drawn up will prove of interest to South Canterbury players. A recent message from Melbourne stated that it was expected that 3000 players would be participating in the various competitions held during the Centenary celebrations. The official opening of the tournament will take place on January 19, will commence on January 21. Three series of Test fixtures, each of three matches, have been arranged as follows: —England v. New Zealand; England v. Australia; New Zealand v. Australia. An average of seven playing days will be allowed for each series of three matches. It is estimated that the championships, which consist of singles and doubles, will take ten days to play off. These events will be arranged on the two-life principle and it is suggested that a limit of two hours a game should be imposed. Matches in the tests will all consist of the best of three games and in the championship of a single game, except the final play-off, which will be the best of three games. It is probable that when New Zealand meets England the Test will consist of four singles and two doubles and when New Zealand plays Australia the Test will consist of five singles and two doubles. At the conclusion of the Tests an open tournament will be arranged which will be open to any players with handicaps between scratch and plus seventeen bisques, to be played in four grades.
