SYDNEY WOOL SALES

HEALTHIER COMPETITION FOR WEEK United press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 16, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 15. The weekly wool letter in “The Sydney Morning Herald” says: “Prices for the great bulk of wool submitted this week at Sydney showed no quotable alterations, but competition was healthier, Yorkshire and Japan buying freely, with Continental competitions more widely distributed. The absence of any marked variation of prices is encouraging, but offerings have been small owing to withdrawals. The wisdom or otherwise of heavy withdrawals remains to be proved, as no development is in sight in Europe to justify the assumption that prices are likely to appreciate. While conditions for selling wool very freely to the Continent are far less favourable than last year, next week will provide the test, as the London sales open on Tuesday.”
