ADDINGTON MARKET GOOD SALE OF SHOW STOCK. By Telegraph— Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. August 8. The National double market was held to-day. Owing to shipping troubles the North Island was pratically unrepresented by fat stock, only four coming forward. There w r ere outstanding lines from the south of both sheep and cattle. Store Sheep.—There was a small entry comprising aged ewes for most part. Values recovered a little of last week’s easing. Spring Lambs.—Twenty came forward and sold unevenly at from 30/to 48/-. Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of 6000. but the quality was not up to the usual national standard. The best wether price was 42/10 and ewe 39/7. Show wethers sold to 42/10, extra prime 29/- to 31/-, prime heavy 26/- to 28/medium weight prime 23/- to 25/6. ordinary 20/- to 22/6, light to 19/-, show ewes to 29/7, extra prime heavy 25/6 to 26/6, prime heavy 23/6 to 25/-, medium weight prime 20/6 to 23/-, ordinary 17/6 to 20/- and light 17/-. Fat Cattle.—6os were penned. Apart from eight to 10 show bullocks, the entry was of ordinary quality. An advance of up to 20/- a head was recorded on last week. Top price was £2O for a North Island bullock. Prime beef made from 25/- to 28/-, a few pens to 29/- per 1001 b, prime heavy from 22/- to 24/1, plain heavy 19/- to 21/1, secondary beef 16/6 to 19/1, and rough down to 14/-. Show bullocks made £l6 to £2O. extra prime heavy steers £ll/5/- to £l4/5/-, prime heavy £9/5/to £ll. prime medium weight £8 to £lO. ordinary £5/10/- to £7/10/-, light £5 extra prime heifers to £ll/17/6, prime £6 to £B/10/-, ordinary £4/5/- to £5/15/-, light to £4. extra prime cows to £8 /17/6, prime £5 TO/- to £7/10/-, ordinary £3/15/- to £5. light and aged to £3/10/Store Cattle. —There was a nondescript entry with no quotable lines. Fat Pigs.—There was a good sized entry and a firm sale. A giant sow about 10001 b live weight, sold at £2O. Ordinary choppers made 50/- to £6. baconers 47 6 to £3/14/6 (average price per lb. 43d to sd), porkers 25/6 to £2/1/6 (average price per lb 5d to s£d). Store Pigs.—Values were a shade easier. Weaners made 9/6 to 14/1 and stores 14/6 to 25/-.

BURNSIDE SALE MUTTON DEARER. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, August 8. There were good entries in the major sections at Burnside to-day. In the fat cattle section, 282 head were yarded with a good selection of all grades. The full yarding made buyers cautious, and opening prices on the average were fl a head down as compared with last week’s values. The demand improved arid prices for the last two races were 10/- a head better. Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £l4/7/6, prime heavy £lO/10/- to £l2 12/-, medium £7/15/- to £9/7/6, light £6/2/6 to £7/2/6, extra prime heifers to £B/17/6, prime heavy heifers and young cows £5/7/6 to £7/7/6, light and medium £3/7/6 to £4/17/6. The yarding of 1400 fat sheep contained very few heavy wethers, but an excellent selection of good quality ewes. There was a firm demand from the opening, but towards the end of the sale values for medium and light weight ewes eased by 1/- a head. Apart from this prices for ewes and wethers were 1/- a head better than last week. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 33/9, prime heavy 29/- to 31/6, medium 25/- to 28/-, light 21/- to 24/-, extra prime heavy ewes to 25/3, prime heavy 20/- to 22/6. prime medium 16/6 to 19/7 and light and medium 12/- to 15/6. The few hoggets offered included some prime sorts. The yarding was keenly competed for at prices ranging up to 27/6. There was a small entry in the store cattle section numbering 80 head. The entry comprised vealers and cull cows. Vealers sold firm at late rates, but on account of short supply prices for graziers and boner cows firmed considerably. There was a very small entry in the dairy section and no improvement on the low values which ruled recently. In the fat pig section there was a yarding of 118 head. Bacon curers operated throughout, and a steady sale resulted. Heavy baconers sold to £3 10/- and heavy porkers to £3/7/-. Ninety-one store pigs were forward and prices were slightly easier. Large stores sold to 25/-. COLOMBO TEA AUCTION. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN. August 8. L. M. Wright has received the following cabled report on the Colombo tea auction of August 7—The market for fine teas advanced lid to 2d, while common grades were Id to td dearer.
