TEMUKA STOCK SALE
FAT CATTLE FIRM. Moderate entries came forward for yesterday's sale held at the Temuka saleyards. Fat Cattle.—About 70 head were offered, the selection being of very poor quality, most of the beasts offered showing the effect of the hard winter being experienced. Good cattle were slightly better than later rates. Values were: Fat steers £5 to £7/2/6, fat cows £4 to £6/7/6, heifers £3 to £5/12 6. Store Cattle.—Store cattle met with an improved sale, values being:—Heifer calves 17/- and 18/-, 18 months heifers 34/6 to £2. empty cows 8/- to 26/-, forward cows, 35/- to £2/15/-. Dairy Cattle.—The yarding of dairy cattle was much larger than usual, about 40 head coming forward. With few exceptions, the quality was on the poor side. Prices were: Springing heifers to £3/5/-. springing cows to £4, cows in profit £4/7/6, September calvers (low conditions), 27/6 to £2/15/-. Fat Sheep.—ln the entry of fat sheep there were some lines of good ewes, but quality wethers were conspicuous by their absence. Prices were about on a par with those ruling at the last Pleasant Point sale. Best ewes made from 16/- to 18/10, medium ewes 14/to 15/3, light ewes 12/6 to 13/6, light wethers 21/- to 23/-. Store Sheep—The store sheep market w r as on a par with late rates. Sales made were:—Wether hoggets 13/7 and 14/6, small two-tooth ewes 22/- s.m. three-quarter-bred ewes 23/-, two tooth wethers, 21/6. Pigs—A smaller entry than usual was offered, values appreciating by fully 3/a head. The range was:—Weaners 8/6 to 15/-. slips 14/- to 20/-. good stores to 37/-, baconers to £3/5/-.
