HONOURING THE ENGLISHMAN WHO FOUNDED JAPAN’S MARITIME POWER.— Recently a memorial in the shape of a clock-tower was unveiled at Gillingham, Kent, the birthplace of Will Adams, who founded Japan’s sea power three centuries ago. The unveiling ceremony was performed by Mr Tsuneo Matsudaira, the Japanese Ambassador to Great Britain.
