Mr Sidney Meyer, a member of the Centenary Council who is visiting Sydney, expresses the opinion that more than 100,000 people will attend the Centenary celebrations for the official opening at Melbourne on October 18. It Is expected that 300,000 people will witness the dedication of the Shrine of Remembrance by the Duke of Gloucester on November 11. Victorian Racing clubs are providing £IOO,OOO in prize money for meetings during the celebrations.

AIR RACE PROSPECTS. BETTING ON TIME OCCUPIED. LONDON. June 16. Aviation enthusiasts are already discussing wagers for the Centenary race to Melbourne. A bet of £SO was taken at the Lisbon International Air Convention that the speed race would occupy less than half a week. Mr C. W. A. Scott Is rumoured to have offered to bet that the first three planes will arrive in Melbourne within an hour of each other, but betting on individuals has not begun. Flight-Lieutenant Swinburne, Australian representative at the Lisbon ference, says that the conference made arrangements for greater freedom of passage over foreign countries. The questions of wireless regulations and the reciprocal acceptance of airworthiness was referred to a sub-com-mittee.
