RUGBY SUB-UNION

MEETING OF DELEGATES A meeting of delegates to the Waimate Rugby Sub-Union was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs D. Keyes (president), J. C. Winning, J. Dench, R. Eddy, W. E. Black, J. Granger, J. K. Clark, G. Kilworth, F. McBride, A. Bringans and C. Coates. On the application of the Southern Club, P. Giles was regraded from senior to junior. The application of D. Samways for a transfer from Zingari Club to Southern was granted subject to the usual conditions. An application for O. Veitch to be transferred from Zingari to Southern was considered, and it was resolved that the player having competed in Timaru last Saturday should stand down for two playing Thursdays. J. Alty was added to the list of Southern senior players. W. Johnson was granted a transfer from Marist to Old Boys juniors, as was H. Roberts, from Marist to Huimai juniors. J. Wesley and P. Swainson were granted registration as Huimai seniors subject to complying with clearance and residential qualifications. The use of the grounds at Manchester Park on Friday next was granted to the Waimate primary school to play a match against Waitaki Junior High School. Permission was granted to High School to play two games against St. Kevin"s College, Redcastle. The draw for to-morrow resulted:— Seniors.—Huimai v. Old Boys, No. 2 ground, at 2.45 p.m. Marist v. Southern, No. 1 ground, 2.45 p.m. Juniors.—High School v. Huimai No. 3 ground, at 3 p.m. Glenavy v. Old Boys, at Glenavy, at 3 p.m. Southern, a bye. General. The Boys’ High School Club, Timaru, wrote asking for a game in Waimate against the Waimate junior representatives on either Thursday, July 5, or July 12. The president said that the match would prove a decided attraction, provided a suitable date could be arranged. The matter was held over for a week. It was resolved to offer Waitaki the choice of July 26 or 28 as the date for the annual match. The president reported that July 7 submitted as the date for the match against the Mackenzie Sub-Union, at Fairlie, would probably prove acceptable to Mackenzie. The secretary submitted an interim balance sheet of the Sub-Union’s annual ball showing receipts £27, expenditure £lB/9/-, and a credit balance of £B/11/-. On the motion of the president, it was resolved to send letters of thanks to the members of the ladies’ committee for their invaluable services at the function. Messrs J. Dench and C. Coates were appointed selectors to choose a junior representative team. The secretary reported that the takings last Thursday were £2O/7/6 at the gate, and £4/10/- at the stand; a total of £24/17/6. Martyn, Marist wing threequarter and ex-West Coast representative player, has been invited to join the team to play in the South Island Possibles v. Probables match at Oamaru.

YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB. At the second meeting of the Hunter Young Farmers’ Club, Mr P. McNeill introduced Mr W. Stafford, of the Department of Agriculture. Mr Stafford gave a lecture on ‘‘The Establishment of Pasture,” at the conclusion of which a number of questions were asked. On the motion of Mr McNeill, the lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The election of the committee which had been held over from last meeting, was then held, and in addition to the president (Mr P. McNeill), chairman (Mr A. McFarlane), secretary (Mr D. Gregan), and treasurer (Mr J. Anstey), the following were elected: Messrs J. Major, J. McFarlane, T. Allen and I. McNeill. It was decided to hold meetings on the third Wednesday in each month. SAVAGE CLUB. At the recent Korero of the Waimate Savage Club, Warrior D. Macdonald was installed as presiding Chief for the evening by Great Chief Newall. Colonel A. E. Loach, Christchurch, secretary of the Association of Kindred Clubs, was present as the guest of the club and gave a talk on the affairs of the Association and the progress it was making. Mr F. Milner, C.M.G., M.A., Rector of the Waitaki Boys’ High School, was elected an honorary life member. The programme of entertainment was as follows: Instrumental duets, Savages E. Chapman and H. D. de Tourettes; lecturette, “Illumination,” Savage A. J. Larnder; reminiscences, Mr F. T. Wallace; selections, the Orchestra; sketch, Warriors A. Bringans and T. A. Wilson. BASKETBALL. The following is the draw for tomorrow : A Grade. —Willowbridge v. High Schol A2, at High School, at 3.15 p.m. B. Grade.—Waimate v. Studholme at 2.30. High School V. Hunter at 3.15 The following A grade players are required at High School courts at 4 p.m.: M. Baker, E. Jackson, D. Harrison, M. Leonard, D. Grylls, J. Bendall, A. Faulkner, Y. Hollamby, A. Crowe, A.
