SEARCH ORGANISATION
SAFETY MEASURES BEST Speaking at the annual meeting of the Tararua Tramping Club, Mr H. E. Anderson said that unfortunately two deaths had occurred during the last year in the territory normally covered by members of the club, one from a fall from a cliff and the other from exhaustion in the ranges. Such accidents shewed the dangers which were at times met by members, and brought home again the need to exercise care at all times. There would always be a certain number of adventurous and foolhardy spirits, and there would always be chances of accident, but properly-equipped parties should come out safely. The risk of death from exhaustion was not run by anyone who went in properly prepared and. equipped. Warmly appreciative reference was made to the splendid response made by members of the Palmerston North, Masterton, and other clubs when the searches were undertaken and to the oranisers of the large parties sent out by the Tararua Club. The organisation established in the big search of twelve months ago would undoubtedly be of great value should a search for a club member or any other tramper have to be undertaken in the future.
