LURE OF SPEED
RACING MOTORIST KILLED AT BROOKLANDS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph -Copyright (Received June 24, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON, June 23. John Holdsworth, the motor racing ace, driving .a Bugatti in the 300-mile empire trophy handicap at Brooklands, violently skidded at the snake bend. The car somersaulted twice. Houldsworth died in hospital from a fractured skull. Earl Howe crashed at the bend. His car turned round twice and ran backwards towards the fence and was smashed. Earl Howe was uninjured. Eyston, driving a M.G. Magnette, averaging 80.01 miles an hour won the race. Whitney Straight, the American millionaire, driving a Mastrati at 82.45 miles per hour was second, and Eccles in a Bugatti, which he drove at 81.70 miles and hour, was third. Lobb, driving an Alfa Romeo at 81.36 miles an hour, was fourth.
