THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist. General situation—A cyclonic depression is still centred near Cape Maria Van Diemen, and has been extending southwards. Pressure is very high at the Chathams, also over Eastern Australia. Winds —Freshening southerly south of Westport and Akaroa; elsewhere moderate to strong northerly, reaching gale force in places, changing to southerly soon about Coolc Strait; southerlies shortly becoming general. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Heavy north of East Cape and moderate south of Farewell Spit, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong southerlies, of gale force in the northern portion, and seas rough to heavy. Weather —Unsettled, cloudy and misty, with rain in most districts; further heavy falls in the northern half of the North Island with considerable flooding; temperatures becoming cold with snow on the ranges. Mr F. E. Wooles. Wind—Moderate to strong southerly. Weather—Further rain at times; cold. Conditions In Timaru. The weather in Timaru yesterday was dull and threatening, and in the late afternoon became very cold. Last night a heavy fog settled over the town.
