WAIMATE

RUGBY SUB-UNION | REPRESENTATIVE GAMES A meeting of delegates to the Waimate Rugby Sub-Union was held on Monday night. Present—Messrs D. Keyes (president), J. C. Winning, J. Dench, A. W. Sawell, R. Eddy, W. E. Black. J. K. Clark. A. Williams, f’ Mcßride, G. Kilworth, W. Granger. C. Coates, H. V. Barford, and A. Bringans. It was decided to notify the South Canterbury Rugby Union that Mr J. K. Clark had been appointed to referee the representative match, South Canterbury v. Waimate. The Mackenzie Sub-Union wrote asking that the representative match, Mackenzie v. Waimate, should be played at Fairlie on July 5. The Waitaki Sub-Union wrote stating that it wished the annual match with Waimate to be played on any date except July 5. After discussion, it was decided to ask the Mackenzie Sub-Union to substitute Saturday, July 7, two days later than the date submitted, in order to avoid interference with local games. The date of the Waitaki match was held over for future consideration. Clearance of Players. In regard to the application received from R. Grylls and E. Peck, the secretary of the Old Boys’ Club wrote stating that, bearing in mind that the Sub-Union’s rules stipulated that applications for transfers to local clubs must be in by April 30, clearances would be granted to these players, who were financial. It was decided that as the applicants had either played or been picked to play for other clubs, and as the time limit had expired, that the applicants must either rejoin Old Boys or stand down for the season, according to the rules of the Sub-Union. Player Cautioned. Mr F. Wilce, referee in the senior match Huimai v. Marist on Thursday last, wrote stating that he had ordered a Huimai player, R. Lundy, off the field for deliberately kicking a player. Mr Wilce attended the meeting and said that at the time of ordering the player off he had thought that Lundy’s boot had connected with the face of another player, but he had since learned that such had not been the case. In answer to questions, Mr Wilce stated that he had not ordered the player off for fun, but he had honestly thought that an attempt to kick had been deliberately made. He had ordered Lundy off without issuing a warning. After the match he had been informed that the player (Bray) had not been kicked. Jk

Lundy appeared and stated that he had no knowledge or intention of kicking a player. Three or four players had fallen in a ruck, and he might have tlyown his feet out in attempting to get up. but did not remember doing so. He felt sure that there had been no incident which called for retaliation on his part in regard to a previous occurrence during the game. After discussing the evidence it was decided that the player should be cautioned. General. A donation of 7/6 was granted to the Haka Valley School towards the cost of purchasing a football. C. Hansen was added to the Huimai senior list of players conditionally on his not having played for Marist last season. It was decided that admission charges for the representative match should be—men 1/-, women, High School pupils and juniors 6d, unemployed (on production of certificate) 6d, children 3d, and admission to grandstand 6d. It was decided to issue 20 pases for the visiting players and officials for admission to the grounds, and to the complimentary dinner. The secretary reported that arrangements had been made with the Waimate Silver Band to play from the Post Office to the grounds, and also at the interval. Mr Riach reported that the takings last Thursday amounted to £3/15/-. At a meeting of the ladies’ committee to control the arrangements for the annual ball, the offer of Mrs G. Kilworth to provide an extra silk scarf for competition if necessary, was accepted with thanks. The draw for to-morrow is as under:— Seniors—South Canterbury v.
