SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT MEET AT ROSEWILL (Contributed.) In spite of the recent heavy rains, the South Canterbury Hunt was able to hold its meet at Rosewill on Saturday. The going was heavy and a light nor'W'est wind made scent catchy in the morning, but conditions improved considerably in the afternoon. Hounds were thrown off in Mr T. Divan’s, two fields being tried out before a hare was put up in the creek. Running up the hill she was soon on the road, where she lay up. Hounds worked out the line and killed in a field at the back of Mr Bailey’s homstead. This gave the Master an opportunity to “blood” a very promising new follower. Another short run took place in Mr L. Smith’s, the hare taking the pack over the steep downs. As scent was poor, and hounds found it difficult to pick up the line on the shady facings, the Master decided to return to the road and join the onlookers at lunch. Throwing off in Mr R. Bassett’s, a hare was soon afoot. Running along the creek and out on to the road, she turned up the hill but was lost. Finding almost immediately in Mr W. Divan's, a strong light grey hare went away very fast on to the top of the down. Here she ran right-handed in Mr C. Beckingsale’s for several fields. Doubling back she again ran into Mr W. Divan’s. Keeping on top of the down she ran for some way before turning down to the road. Here hounds checked for a moment, but were soon on the line again, and crossing into Mrs McCoy’s, ran very fast on to the top of the hill, where the hare was lost in a field of turnips. This was the best run of the season, six miles having been covered. Those out were: The Master (Mr C. L. Orbell) on Richard, the Huntsman <J. Shaw) on Kennel Boy and Night Club, hon. whip, B. Orbell on Composer, Mrs Hamilton on Kitty Lane, Misses B. Harper on Challenger, J. Jones on Kohinoor, M. Orbell on Gendarme, Jackson on Blue Ray, B. Orbell on Kingfisher, C. Elworthy on Geordie, S.
