WORK CAMPAIGN
JOBS WANTED FOR UNEMPLOYED. At its meeting last night the Timaru Unemployment Committee decided to make an appeal to citizens to make an effort to provide employment for as many of the unemployed during the coming winter as was possible. The proposal was the outcome of a suggestion made by Mr H. G. Naylor, who said that he had read in a newspaper that in Christchurch the Rotary Club was conducting a work campaign with the object of placing as many unemployed in work as was possible. He commended the idea to the Committee and suggested that a similar campaign should be carried out in Timaru. The Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite): Perhaps the Rotary Club here will take it up and do what it can—and the Hospital Board. Mr Naylor: And the Borough Council. The Mayor: Yes. Mr J. G. Leckie suggested that a deputation from the Committee should wait on the manufacturers and put a proposition to them that they should find work for some of the unemployed during the winter. After discussion it was decided to make an appeal to the public to find as much employment during the winter as was possible.
