POLYNESIAN SOCIETY
FINANCES CAUSING CONCERN. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. May 16. “The present financial position of the Society gives us cause for great concern,” said the Rt. Rev. H. W. Williams, Bishop of Waiapu, in his presidential address at the annual meeting of the Polynesian Society today. The chairman of the Council, Mr Johannes C. Anderson, said that last year no grants had been received. Moreover, the income from subscriptions had dropped considerably, and unless assistance was forthcoming very soon it would be difficult to see how publication of the journal could be continued even if reduced in size. The election of officers resulted Patron, Lord Bledisloe; president, Bishop Williams; secretary, Mr A. H. Macivor; treasurer, Mr D. W. Foster; auditor, Mr H. Baillie. The retiring members of the council, Messrs J. C. Anderson. W. R. B. Oliver, and Dr. I. Sutherland, were reelected.
