THE RABBIT PEST

FARMERS APPROACH MINISTER. Bv Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 2. The request made to the Minister of Lands at the last meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union that landowners bounded by unoccupied Crown lands and native lands should be assisted to erect rabbit proof fences on rabbit infested country was replied to by letter by the Hon E. A. Ransom at to-day’s meeting of the executive. Mr Ransom stated that the Government could not assume the financial responsibility in a general way. but so far as the Lands Department was concerned if such landowners had been financially asisted by way of loan, applications for further assistance for the erection of rabbit proof fences would be given consideration on their merits.
