ST. MARY’S TENNIS CLUB
PRESENTATION TO MR H. ORAM A presentation was made to Mr H. Oram by the St. Mary’s Tennis Club in the Parish Hall during a flag bridge party held in his honour last evening. About 40 members were present. Mr R. W. Simpson, vice-president of the club in presenting a handsome reading lamp to Mr Oram, said he had known him for 20 years and he could truthfully say there was not another man in the parish for w-hom he felt greater respect and reverence. Not only was he a very loyal churchman, but he was one who was aiv/r; s doing good work in a deliberately unobtrusive way. As churchwarden for many years. Mr Simpson had been in a position to realise this fact to a degree that was impossible for others. In particular, Mr Oram had been secretary and treasurer of the St. Mary’s Tennis Club for 13 years, during which time he had been the man chiefly responsible for making the club what it was to-day.
Mr Simpson’s remarks were endorsed by Mrs H. W. Monaghan and the Rev. J. Evans, after which Mr Oram expressed his thanks to the club members for their gift and good wishes, and also his deep regret at having to leave the club.
