BURNSIDE SALE

VALUES EASIER By Tel< jraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, May 2. There was a large yarding of fat cattle, numbering more than 400 head, at to-day’s Burnside sale. The entry comprised a number of plain cattle and more cows and heifers than usual. There were only odd consignments of good quality heavy bullocks. Prices for these remained firm at late rates, but on account of the oversupply, values for the remainder of the yarding showed a reduction of fully 10/- a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks made £ll/17/6, prime heavy £8 10 - to £lO/2/6, medium £6/15/- to £B/2/6, light down to £5/5/-; extra prime heifers £7/12/6, and extra prime cows £5/2/6. The fat sheep entry numbered 1900, there being only a small proportion of heavy wethers included. These sold firm at late rates. Heavy ewes also made current values. Medium quality ewes and wethers, more particularly the latter, declined fully 1/- a head. Export buyers operated at the increased schedule for freezing ewes. Extra prime heavy wethers made 30 3, prime heavy 24/6 to 27/6, medium 22/to 23/6;' extra prime heavy ewes to 20/-, prime heavy 16/6 to 19/-, medium 15/6 to 16/6, and light down to 12/6. The fat lamb section attracted an entry of 700 head. The quality throughout was only fair. The fall in the lamb schedule was noticeable here, and medium and heavy quality lambs declined in value by about 1/- a head. Extra prime heavy butchers’ lambs sold to 29/9, prime heavy 24/- to 27/-, medium 22/6 to 24 and light down to 20/3. In the fat pig section 166 were penned. Baconers were in good demand at prices slightly firmer than at recent sales. Porkers hardly realised late rates. The entry of 102 store pigs met a dragg/ng sale. There was a large yarding in the store cattle section, and this comprised several pens of well-bred steers. Top price was £6/2/6 for a pen of four-year-old good conditioned bullocks. Two and a half-year-old steers sold from £3 to £4/7/6, according to size and quality, and two and a half-year-old heifers sold to £3/3/-.
