SLIP IN QUARRY

STEAM SHOVEL WRECKED. By Telegraph—Press Association GREYMOUTH, April 24. A fall of approximately 200 tons of stone from the main face at the east end of the Cobden quarry, at 5.15 this morning, crashed against the steam shovel used in excavating spoil from the quarry. The shove], whicn was valued at £ISOO, and capable of lifting 60 tons an hour, was completely wrecked, receiving the full force of the stone on the side, the heavy boiler being hurled a distance of 24 feet. Had the stone come down while the men were working in the quarry a dozen would have been trapped, as they had worked yesterday right under the 180 foot main face.
