FIRE IN DARWIN

BIG BOND STORE DESTROYED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright DARWIN, April 24. The most serious fire in the history of Darwin destroyed the railway bond store which was full of goods landed by the last steamer, mainly for country centres, which are now faced with a shortage of provisions, as storekeepers depend on the monthly boats for supplies. There is no clue as to the origin of the fire. Residents in the vicinity of the blaze were terrified, thinking the oil tanks were on fire. They crammed into all available cars and fled. The night was spent outside the danger zone.
