PLUNKET SOCIETY

PLEASANT POINT SUB-BRANCH. The fourteenth Annual general meeting of the Pleasant Point Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Town Hall, and was well attended. Correspondence was read from the Timaru Branch asking for delegates to be present at the Provincial Conference to be held to-morrow. The president then read her report as follows: “I have pleasure in submitting to you the fourteenth annual report of the Pleasant Point sub-branch of the Plunket Society. During the year six meetings have been held all of which were well attended. Unfortunately our subscriptions and donations are lower this year, but we hope as times improve the membership of the Society will be increased. The branch is greatly indebted to Mrs Trimble for the use of a room for the nurse’s visit, and it is pleasing to be able to say that this innovation has been more successful. Our thanks are due to the parent branch for helping us, particularly in reducing our quota for the year from £BO to £SO. In order to raise funds a picture show was held by which £6 3s 6d was made; also a children’s dance, which netted us £5 13s. Our thanks are due to all those who helped on these occasions. In December the usual shop day was held but unfortunately the day was a very wet one. However, all those present worked hard and by their efforts this Society benefited by £l3 13s 2d. We wish to thank Mr J. Smith for so kindly giving us the use of his garage. In conclusion I wish to thank our collectors, Mr and Mrs C. Chapman for the use of their car, Mr Taylor, our auditor, Mrs Trimble for the use of a room, the Levels County Council for its donation, and to all subscribers. The nurse’s report showed that her work was going on steadily, there having been 317 visits by adults, 257 by children, 253 visits to homes, and 15 new cases. The treasurer’s report showed that the credit balance in the P.O. was £2O, after having paid the quota for the year to the Temuka branch.” In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the president expressed her appreciation of the work of the committee, and thanked the members for their loyal support. The following committee was elected President, Mrs William Raymond; vice-presidents, Mrs P. Benham and Mrs C. Chapman; committee, Mesdames Oldham, Trimble, McLeod, Simmons, Dossett, R. Murphy, L. C. Orbell, Watson, McMurtrie, J. Smith, Craythome, and Blackler; hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss A. Maze.

Before concluding the business Mrs L. Orbell proposed a vote of thanks to Miss A. Maze for her work as secretary during the last fourteen years. The motion was carried by acclamation.
