RAM FAIR

SPLENDID ENTRIES SOUTHDOWNS IMPROVE CONSIDERABLY The annual ram fair, held under the auspices of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association, will take place on the showgrounds to-morrow. The entries this year are most gratifying, the total being 1674, as compared with 1,348 last year, an increase of 326 As the table below will indicate, the chief increase is in English Leicesters, and Southdowns, the entries in the former going up by 100, and in the latter by 213. Romney Marsh entries have fallen away slightly, but there has been a big increase in half-breds this year, as compared with last year. The sale is timed to comence at 9 o'clock, and will probably not conclude until late in the afternoon. The secretary of the Association has made complete arrangements for trucking, these being on the same lines as last year. Buyers are requested to notify agents immediately a purchase is made, so that all rams can be off the grounds tomorrow night. Luncheon will be available on the ground. Comparative entries are as under:

1934 1933 Border Leicester .. .. 357 327 English Leicesters . .. 445 345 Romney Marsh . .. .. 311 384 Corriedale 129 Southdown 120 Shropshire 11 Ryelands — Halfbred 14 Studs 18 1.674 1,348
