The New Zealand branch of the Empire Cancer Campaign has received the following cablegram from the headquarters of the society in London:— “The Empire Day appeal will be inaugurated by a meeting convened by the Lord Mayor of London at the Mansion House, wh.' T will be addressed by the president of the campaign, the Duke of York, on May 1. On Sunday, May 20, Lord Moynihan, the past president of the Royal College of Surgeons, will broadcast an appeal here and throughout the British dominions through the short wave transmitters of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Lord Moynihan will ask for support for all branches overseas and will state that sums received from New Zealand will be returned to your branch. Five hundred municipalities and district councils are holding a day here in aid of the appeal.”

An Auckland fishing boat which nas been lost since December 13, 1933, has been recovered after a long cruise without a crew. It had been insecurely fastened, and the rising tide washed it away while the men were engaged on the beach drawing the nets. A search of the harbour proved fruitless, and after being advertised for the boat was given up ns lost. On Wednesday morning advice was received that the boat had been washed ashore at Kinikinl, on Mahia peninsula, north of Hawke’s Bay. The craft was badly damaged after its three months’ voyage in the open sea.
