THE WEATHER
Mr F. L. Wooles. Wind —Variable moderate to strong westerly to southerly ruling. Weather—Slightly unsettled, but mainly fair. Outlook for week-ending April 2 Wind mainly northerly to westerly; weather mainly fair during the period; an occasional shower likely later. Dominion Meteorologist. General Situation.—The last of the recent series of westerly winds has been crossing the Dominion to-day, and an extensive anti-cyclone is now moving on to the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate to strong northwesterly from Canterbury northwards, south-westerly thence southwards, but southerlies shortly becoming general. Seas (New Zealand Waters).—Rather rough south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Fresh to strong southerly winds and rough seas. Weather. —Unsettled and changeable, showers in most districts, snow likely on some of the ranges, hail on parts of the east coast and temperatures becoming cold, improving soon, however, on the west coast of the South Island. Conditions in Timaru. The weather in Timaru yesterday was characterised by varying conditions. The morning was clear and summerlike, and the temperature was high until early in the afternoon when a southerly change was apparent. Conditions were much colder and at one period ominous clouds came up from the south and rain threatened. With a south-easterly wind, however, the storm proceeded towards the hills. The temperature remained cold, however, and rain started to fall at 11.30 p.m.
