REFUSED TO ATTEND CLINIC
SEAMAN BEFORE COURT By Telegraph— Press Association AUCKLAND, March 26. “This young man has been taken into custody for his own sake,” seid the police prosecutor to-day, whe ” a s ? a " man, aged 18, was charged with being idle and disorderly. The prosecutor said the man was suffering from an infectious disease and refused to attend the clinic. He had been warned by the police, but had been in the habit of visiting the municipal baths. Counsel asked that the accused should be placed on strict probation. The Magistrate: Then he would be at liberty. I think it better if he is placed in gaol till c ured. .. , Counsel protested that that would be drastic, as there were hundreds of people who attended the clinic, but were at large. ... The Magistrate: But in the public interest he should be prevented from spreading the disease. He will be convicted on this charge, and sentence postponed until March 29.
