The range was: Fat steers £5 to £7/17/6, fat cows to £5, fat heifers £3/17/6 to £5/17/6, vealers to 30/-. Fat cows and vealers £4/7/6 to to £5/2/6. Store cattle.—An improved tone was noticed in the store cattle market. Prices were: Bulls £2/2/6. Fat sheep.—The entry was again a good one, two full races being offered. Values were: Best fat ewes 14/- to 15/6, exporters ewes to 13/6, light fat wethers 22/-.
Store sheep.—The entry included a number of full mouth and two tooth Romney ewes from south. Some of the young ewes were of -excellent quality, the top price paid being 33/6. During the last few weeks, farmers throughout the district have purchased freely and yesterday’s sale showed a slight easing owing to the fact that many buyers have secured requirements. Good two-tooth ewes did not suffer to any extent but the semi-sound ewes must have been back by about 1/6 a head. Lambs again sold freely and buyers were on the look out for good fattening sorts. Only a few pens of good lambs were forward. Prices were: Wether lambs 15/- to 19/4, ewe lambs 16/6 to 20/-, s.m. threequarter bred ewes 18/- to 21/-, ordinary 2,4, 6 and 8tooth ewes 16/6.
