RUGBY. At the annual meeting of the Huimai Football Club Mr E. J. Meredith presided. The balance-sheet showed a substantial credit. ' The president, in his annual review, stated that both from a financial and club point of view, the year had been the most successful in the history of the club. The senior team had come out on top in the Waimate SubUnion’s competitions, winning the Coltman Cup and Sadler Shield, and being runners-up in the knock-out competition, while, best of all, the team had annexed the Burnett Shield which was for competition between the premiers of the Waimate and Mackenzie Sub-Unions. Congratulations were due to those players who gained representative honours in the Waimate Sub-Union’s team, and especially to R. Lundy and N. Cummings, who had also gained South Canterbury honours. The loss of J. Richmond, one of the Club’s foremost forwards was recorded with regret. The junior team had also played well throughout the season, just failing to win the shield, but winning the junior knock-out cup. From a social point of view, two very successful dances had been held, from which thp club had benefited to the extent of about £lO. The vice-presi-dents were to be thanked for their generosity, as were the ladies of Morven and the surrounding districts, for their very valuable assistance at these dances. Thanks were also due to Messrs J. Heath, J. C. Winning and H. V. Bar?jrd, the club’s delegates to the Sub-Union, for the manner in which they had looked after Huimai's interests. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr E. J. Meredith; secretary, Mr W. Wellwood; assistant secretary, Mr J. Glynn; delegates to Sub-Union, Messrs J. C. Winning, H. V. Barford and another to be appointed; committee, Messrs R. Lundy, E. Fraser, E. Allnutt, Jas. Flynn, J. Glynn and W, Lundy; selectors, Messrs R. Forsyth and W. Wellwood (senior) and Mr J. Heath (junior).
It was decided to enter senior and junior teams in the Waimate SubAssociation’s competitions. Subscriptions were fixed at 3/- for seniors and 2/- for juniors. The Excelsior Club (Oamaru) wrote suggesting a match on April 14. It was decided to accept that date, the game to be played at Waimate.
