Special Prizes—Gardening: Maurice Fifield, Keith Baker, Arnold Simpson. Patching: Geraldine Webb. Darning: Jean Fifield. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. In the absence of the president (Mrs L. E. Williams), Miss May (vicepresident) occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Woodbury Women’s Institute. There was a very good attendance of members and visitors. Members of the visiting committee reported on having visited sick members. Satisfaction was expressed that Mrs L. E. Williams, although unable to be present, was much better. Suggestions were given for the programme for the garden party to be held in Mrs J. M. Barker’s garden, “Waihi,” in January. In a debate, “Should husbands and wives accompany each other on holiday,” the affirmative was taken by Miss N. Lysaght and Mrs Sharpe, and the negative by Miss Davies and Mrs Chisnall. Alter an open discussion, Mrs Dixon summed up, and on a vote being taken, the affirmative side was declared the winners. The competition held over from last month, “Drawing your neighbour’s face,” was won by Miss Mabel Webb, While Miss Easterbrook was second. A short period was spent in singing carols, Mrs Dixon being accompanist. The following members were hostesses—Mesdames Stonyer, Sharpe and Dixon, and the Misses Fifield and Williams. THE WEATHER.
Steady rain continued throughout most of Monday, clearing during the night. Two hundred and two points of rain fell from Saturday night till Tuesday morning. TE MOANA. The annual break-up was held in the Te Moana school grounds. There was a brilliant display of work done during the year. After lunch the girls gave a Japanese song in costume, which was followed by a play, “Cock a Doodle Doo,” all the children taking part. The honours list is as follows: Specials—Robinson Progress Cup: Cecily Padget. Highest percentage in school: Pat Volckman 1, David Robinson 2. Std. 4—David Robinson 1, Doris Waine 2, Gertrude Robinson 3. Std. 3—Theo Valentine. Std. 2—Pat Volckman, Lorraine McPherson, Harold Burrows. Std. I—Joy Robinson, Ivo Valentine, Cyril Burrows.
