The Levels County Council at yesterday s meeting passed a motion of sympathy with Mr William Smith, an employee since 1901. who is at present in hospital.
Mr E. P. Yaldyn, manager for New Zealand of the Commercial Bank of Australia, has been elected chairman of the Associated Banks of New Zealnd in succession to Mr J. T. Grose, whose term has expired Mr F. Tur;.er, the t.out fisher, who has not missed a New Zealand season for nine years, arrived yesterday, and on the same ship came Mr A. du Cros, who has been persuaded to come by Mr White-Wickham. His father was the originator of the pneumatic tyres. —Press Association message from Wellington.
A ccusin of the Governor-General. Lord Bledisloe. Mr F. M. Bathurst, of Gloucestershire, arrived at Auckland by the Rangitata yesterday. He is accompanied by Mrs Bathurst, and they left for Wellington by train last night to stay w’ith their Excellencies at Government House. Mr and Mrs Bathurst live near Lord Bledlsloe's estate in Gloucestershire. They visited New Zealand in 1925.. before His Excellency was appointed Governor-General. On this occasion they hope to spend about three months in New Zealand.
Mr E. P. Wills, of Wanjanui, has been appointed as Diocesan 1 gistrar and Secretary to the Church Property Trustees of the Diocese of Christchurch and w’ill take up hL» duties on February 1. Mr Wills has had a brilliant scholastic career. After leaving Nelson College, where in his final year he was a prefect and head of the school. Mr Wills gained the degrees of B.A . LL.M. iHonours), and B.Com. of the University of New Zealand. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1928 and is also an associate member of the New’ Zealand Society of Accountants Since gaining practical experience In legal cffices in Wglliir/tcn and Auckland. Mr Wills has been on the staff of Wanganui Collegiate School.
