STATEMENTS DENIED

ALLEGED ADVICE TO MORTGAGORS. By Telegraph—Presa Association WELLINGTON, December 13. There appear to have been reports circulating in some parts of the Dominion that officers of the State Advances Department have advised mortgagors to pay instalments on interest due to the Department rather than rates to local bodies. One of those reports was to the effect that there had been several cases of the kind in Onehunga. When the matter was referred to the Superintendent of the State Advances Department (Mr E. O. Hales), he gave the reports a flat denial, and said that, on the contrary, instructions had been given to officers against the offering of advice to any mortgagors which might be liable to such an interpretation.
