A thief to-day smashed the window of Hardy Brothers, jewellers, in Collins Street, and snatched several trays of diamond rings worth thousands of pounds, and escaped by running through different buildings and lanes. He, however, lost a number of valuable rings during the escape, some of which were returned to the owners.
